Drinking orange juice helps boost alertness and concentration: study

Instead of ordering a cup of steaming coffee the next time you feel drowsy and tired, try a glass of orange juice instead. A recent study has revealed that the popular fruit juice increases alertness, concentration and reaction times.

Researchers at Reading University made 24 young men undergo a battery of mental tests on two different days as part of the study. On the first day, the participants drank a glass of orange juice before being put through their paces. The next day, they had a flavoured sugary water that looked and tasted like orange juice. The researchers found that when the men had real juice, they performed better on tests of speed and attention. They also experienced increased alertness six hours later.

The results of this study are published in the European Journal of Nutrition, according to the Daily Mail.
